Dear John Muir Reid enthusiasts,

It is with heavy hearts that we share with you the news of our father, John Muir Reid’s passing last month. He was a talented, dedicated artist, and one hell of a human being. While we miss him terribly already, we like to imagine he is somewhere beautiful right now, painting his next great masterpiece.

Outside of his family, nothing in this world brought our father more joy than his art. He discovered his love of painting later in life than most, and went at it with an energy that was inspiring to everyone around him. He spent countless hours in his studio creating work that really meant something to him, that he could be proud of. If his wife, Gayle, had allowed him to sleep in his studio, he probably would have!

Of course there is a commercial side to art – making a sale, locking in a commission, getting into the top shows – but that was never our father’s favorite part of the “job”. His favorite part was driving back after a show and imagining his paintings in your home, how and where you would hang them, what they made you think about, how his work made you feel. Whether he sold one painting or ten, it was always more about customer satisfaction, customer appreciation than commerce. He was truly an artist’s artist.

So, thank you for making our father’s creative life a rich one. Your support and admiration of his art made him a happier, more fulfilled man.

Warmly,
John’s daughters

Los Altos Art and Wine Show this Weekend

I'll be showing my paintings at the Los Altos Art & Wine Show, this Saturday and Sunday, July 12-13. The show is downtown Los Altos, and my booth is on Main Street, close to the end of the show at Foothill Expressway.
My booth number is 440.
Let's hope for great weather! The painting below has sold, but I liked it so much I wanted to put it here.

Montclair Village Sidewalk Art Show
June 28-30

I'll be in the Oakland Hills this Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the sidewalks of Montclair Village with my new paintings. My booth is located on Mountain Blvd. right in front of Starbucks. AND...this Village isn't that big, so there really is only one Starbucks there.

12 x 12 Watercolor on Canvas
So my season starts this weekend with the Menlo Park Sidwalk Art Show. My booth is in the middle of downtown Menlo Park, on Santa Cruz Ave. I am directly in front of the Village Stationers. I have a lot of new watercolors on canvas to start off the year. I have done a lot of new small sizes for small wall spaces. Some of these small paintings are some of the best work I have done, regardless of their small dimensions.

Los Altos Rotary Art Show this Weekend

I'll be in Los Altos this weekend at the annual Rotary Art Show. The show is held in Lincoln Park, which is on Foothill Expressway near Edith Ave. My booth number is 127. This show is very very long and narrow, so I would suggest checking the booth numbers if you are looking for me. Hope you can make it!
